The Royal Scottish Geographical Society

The RSGS is an educational charity that promotes an understanding of natural environments and human societies, and how they interact.  The Society’s vision is to create better stewards of our world, by informing and inspiring individuals about the connections between people, places and the planet.
Our main regular activities are now:

  • running a public centre for geographical and environmental education, in the Fair Maid’s House in Perth;
  • running ‘Inspiring People’, an annual Scotland-wide programme of illustrated public talks, including twelve in Edinburgh;
  • supporting formal and informal education, creating engaging resources and activities for schools and communities, and engaging in education policy issues;
  • producing an informative newsletter and an academic journal, contributing to debate in scientific and political arenas;
  • maintaining our important collection of fascinating geographical heritage items;
